DKNY Purse: Did Golden Globe Fashion include a DKNY Purse?

June 7th, 2009

I wanted to see if any of the famous ladies carried a DKNY purse at the golden globe awards. The Annual Golden Globe Awards held by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association every year have become a real fashion show. The cavalcade of stars walking down the red carpet are being scrutinized mercilessly by the crowd and professional fashion industry, gawking for a blunder and staring awestruck when someone has hit the spot. Let’s see what they were wearing before getting to the question of the dkny purse.

There are certain stars who cannot do anything wrong, like Nicole Kidman, who, no matter what she wears, is being treated like royalty by the press. Others, even if they should be valued more, are savagely attacked for their missteps, like Glenn Close at the most recent awards show, where she showed up in a vintage Giorgio Armani golden pantsuit that was declared medieval and not vintage. The tunic she wore looked like upholstery.

Nevertheless, designers flipped backwards to provide unique and one of a kind attires for the attendees, hits and misses everywhere. While Maggie Gyllenhaal’s blue leopard print gown by Lanvin was not as bad as it sounds, it clashed with her skin and persona, therefore was completely wrong for her. Kate Beckinsale was in a white gown by J. Mendel, looking like she escaped from a wedding. I do not believe there was a single straight man who did not picture himself as a groom at the sight of her. Sandra Bullock wore also white, but her gown was more appropriate for the occasion, a splendid Dior creation, only the blue handbag was disturbing the perfection. I guess she should have had a dkny purse!

Christina Applegate looked stunning in a Roberto Cavalli creation, showing her bare shoulders and some selected jewels from Lorraine Schwartz. She seemed to have recovered from her ghastly health related ordeal and beamed at the paparazzi. Angelina Jolie looked content, yet not all too motherly in her Versace gown; another score for her. America Ferrera of the “Ugly Betty” fame, looked like she stumbled into some drapes and they got entangled all over her. In a weird way, it worked for her.

Hayden Panettiere looked forty in her Gianfranco Ferre purple gown. She is barely nineteen, she should wear something lighter. While Drew Barrymore did look almost nice in her Galliano for Dior gown, her hair looked all over the place; somewhat like Marilyn Monroe would wear, getting out of bed. Beyonce showed off a white Elie Saab creation which was at least three sizes too small. I wonder how she sat down in this. Kate Winslet stole the show with two Golden Globes and the exquisite black Yves Saint Laurent gown. Anne Hathaway did the Audrey Hepburn style in the blue Armani Prive. Alas, it seems that none had a dkny purse.
